Rikolto in Vietnam call for innovative and practical solutions/initiatives in form of small projects, from private companies (MSME, start-up), local research institutes, civil society organizations, universities that can be implemented as a driver to trigger movement toward sustainable food production and consumption in the big cities, bringing health back to our people and planet.

Rikolto in Vietnam is looking for a consultant to conduct a study to assess the successful models of business networks/associations to be established to promote sustainable food systems in Vietnam.

According to the results of research on social concerns for households in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City conducted from April 2019, food safety is the top consumer concern.

On April 20, 2021, Rikolto’s team received a certificate of merit from the Chairman of Vinh Phuc Provincial People's Committee. The province is located northwest of Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam.

On 12 March 2021, at the Agricultural Extension Centre, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuyen Quang province, a Memorandum of Understanding Signing Ceremony was held between the Provincial Agricultural Extension Centre, Agricultural Service Centre of districts and Minh Tam Poultry Breeding and Production Cooperative to coordinate the implementation of the model of linking cucumber production and consumption for 2021 in the province.

On October 2, 2020, Rikolto, GIZ and Oxfam jointly organized the Workshop "Promoting the SRP standard for sustainable rice production in Vietnam" in Can Tho city.

*Rikolto was honored to be one of the organizations awarded the Certificates of Appreciation by the Da Nang People's Committee in a year-end event with foreigners, international organizations, and Vietnamese working for foreign organizations that have made significant contributions to the city on in 2019. *

Piloting only 2 hectares of SRP-compliant rice plantation in Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung has seen a promising direction for sustainable rice production in his homeland with Rikolto’s support.

Between March and August 2019, three journalists from the digital platform Eos Tracé visited partner cities of Rikolto's Food Smart Cities programme. This book tells their stories from 9 cities in Vietnam, Belgium, Tanzania, Indonesia, Ecuador, Honduras and Nicaragua.

Since 2018, Dang Xa cooperative in Hanoi has been using a Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) to guarantee that its vegetables are produced according to Good Agricultural Practices. Thanks to PGS, farmers from Dang Xa have been able to increase their access to markets and to better organise their production.

On 22 March 2019, the City of Da Nang in central Vietnam adopted its Food Smart City development strategy for 2020-2030 with a vision towards 2045. The strategy is the outcome of a fruitful collaboration between Da Nang’s Food Safety Management Authority, Vietnam National University of Agriculture and Rikolto.

Vegetables farmers nowadays tend to use biological pesticides which are less poisonous. However, there still remain a small number of farmers using highly-poisonous pesticides due to the fact that they are not fully aware of the effects and still use them as a habit

The People’s Committee of Danang city issued Decision 995/QĐ-UBND dated 05 March, 2019 approving the vegetable chain development projects by Rikolto.

At the end of February, 2019, a two-day workshop was organized by Da Nang Food Safety Management Authority, Vietnam University of Agriculture (VNUA) and Rikolto to develop a strategy for Da Nang to become a food-smart city.

What will we eat tomorrow? Vegetables are among the most consumed food in Vietnam. And safe vegetable is also one of the two programme themes in Rikolto in Vietnam’s core work within 5 years’ time from 2017 to 2021 to promote Sustainable Inclusive Agriculture Value chains.

To understand better how the rice programme with its strategy is aiming to help the rice farming in Vietnam currently, We carry out a brief in-house interview with Dr Minh Thi Thai – our Regional director, as well as Rice programme coordinator for Rikolto in Vietnam – about the meaning behind Rikolto Rice Value proposition.

Rikolto Rice Cluster works within rice value chains in 9 countries: Indonesia, Senegal, Tanzania, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali and Vietnam. Rikolto's rice sector staff in these 9 countries meet within the "Rice Cluster" to encourage peer-to-peer learning and monitoring across regions, and to seek knowledge exchange between partners and other rice sectors.

Integrated farming models, which combine rice cultivation and aquaculture (either fish or shrimp), have been implemented for decades in the Mekong Delta. This model enables the sustainable intensification of food production while diversifying income and decreasing farmers’ vulnerability to crop failure.

Inclusive business is key intervention strategy based on the ‘win-win plus’ principle. Rikolto and our implementing partners facilitate the participation of and strengthen the benefits for all partners involved in business relations.

As part of the project “Capitalisation of Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) experiences in Vietnam for upscaling and institutionalisation”, supported by the Agroecology Learning Alliance in Southeast Asia, Rikolto developed a trainer’s toolbox to encourage more practitioners to support the development of PGS in their area.

In July 2018, Hanoi’s Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Rikolto started a new collaboration to setup PGS for safe vegetables in various locations around Hanoi. Supported by the Conservation, Food and Health Foundation, this project aims to build evidence of the benefits of PGS in order to replicate the model across Hanoi.

On 30 July, Vietnam National University of Agriculture and Rikolto organised the workshop “10 years of Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) in Vietnam: Sharing lessons and introducing a new PGS training toolbox”. The event concluded a one-year project funded by the Agroecology Learning Alliance in Southeast Asia to capitalise PGS experiences in Vietnam for upscaling and institutionalisation.

What is PGS? How does it work? What has it achieved? What lessons have we learned? This policy brief answers all those questions and more and makes a series of recommendations about what policy-makers can do to support the development of PGS in Vietnam.

As part of a capitalisation project on Participatory Guarantee Systems in Vietnam, Vietnam National University of Agriculture and Rikolto investigated all existing PGS in Vietnam to analyse how PGS could be improved. This case study looks at the factors that contribute to making Thanh Xuan intergroup, established by the Danish NGO ADDA, one of the most successful and sustainable PGS in Vietnam.

Over the 10 years of their existence in Vietnam, Participatory Guarantee Systems have encountered many successes but also sometimes serious struggles. This case study dives into the challenges experiences by one PGS in northern Vietnam and proposes recommendations on how to avoid some of the common pitfalls.

In 2017, Rikolto and Vietnam National University of Agriculture embarked on a one-year project funded by the Agroecology Learning Alliance in Southeast Asia to document Participatory Guarantee Systems (PGS) in Vietnam. The Executive Summary presents the main findings of the study, based on the investigation of all 10 PGS intergroups in the country.

On 28-30 May, Rikolto organised a 3-day workshop to design a new participatory guarantee system (PGS) for safe vegetables in Ha Nam province, marking the first step in the creation of the brand new PGS Ha Nam.

During 10 days from 14 to 23 April 2018, 19 entrepreneurs from Belgium cycled across 9 cities and provinces of Vietnam to raise funds for Rikolto.
