Last week, VECO Vietnam was very pleased to receive test results showing that LUSOTEC’s green tea is more than safe to consume and qualifies for sales on the European market.

In order to determine how VECO could further help LUSOTEC improve its tea production, VECO sent one green tea sample to Eurofins, a reputable laboratory based in Germany, to assess the level of chemical residues in LUSOTEC’s tea.

The lab results have shown that only one type of chemical residue was detected in the tea leaves, with levels below the maximum residue limit. This is very positive as this means that the farmers very strictly follow the production techniques that they were trained on.

Mr. Nguyen Van Luong, the Director of LUSOTEC said: “these results show that LUSOTEC members’ efforts are bearing their fruit. LUSOTEC will not rest on its laurels but this encourages us to keep up the good work. We will use this lab result to prove to buyers that our tea is more than safe for consumption”.

The results demonstrate that the quality of LUSOTEC’s tea is good enough to be exported to the European market. This will create new market opportunities for LUSOTEC both domestically and abroad. Furthermore, farmers are now encouraged to work even harder to improve the quality of their tea and to meet the requirements of more demanding markets.

This recognition of the safety of their production follows another good news for LUSOTEC: the issuance of Yen Lap district’s food safety certificate to the Cooperative, a prerequisite to sell tea on the Vietnamese market.

The coming months will be busy for the Cooperative which will capitalise on these good results by trying to find new buyers for its production. In addition, in December LUSOTEC will undergo an external audit for the renewal of its UTZ certificate. As an internationally-recognised standard, UTZ ensures that the farmers who obtain the certificate farm more effectively, protect their environment and ensure good working conditions for their workers.
