Rikolto (formerly VECO/Vredeseilanden) is an international NGO with more than 40 years’ experience in partnering farmer organisations and food chain stakeholders across Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America. Rikolto runs programmes in 14 countries worldwide through eight regional offices.

Rikolto in Vietnam is the Vietnamese Regional office of Rikolto, located in Hanoi. Rikolto envisions a world with production and consumption systems that allow poverty and hunger to be eradicated and that do not burden our planet more than it can bear. Therefore, Rikolto enables and supports smallholder farmers to take up their role in rural poverty alleviation and to contribute to feeding a growing world population in a sustainable way. In 2017, Rikolto in Vietnam started a 5-year programme named “Supporting Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural Value Chain Development Benefitting Smallholder Farmers in Vietnam”.

We are currently seeking a qualified professional for the position of Temporary Vegetable Programme Officer for a duration of 6 months. There will be an opportunity to extend the contract to one year depending upon the interest. This incumbent will be based in the Regional Office in Hanoi, Vietnam with frequent travel to the Programme’s target locations.

Position Summary

The Temporary Vegetable Programme Officer, under the direct supervision of the Vegetable and Tea Programme Coordinator, supports and facilitates the implementation of the vegetable Programme in close coordination with other programme officers and partners so as to (i) support smallholder farmers to produce and market their vegetables sustainably; (ii) increase consumers’ access to healthy and quality food; and, (iii) improve peri-urban food and agriculture development policies.

Job size: full time

Expected starting date: 01 April 2019

Basic Requirements:

  • A university degree in a relevant domain such as Agronomy, Business, Agricultural Economics, or Rural Development;
  • At least 3 years in value chain development and proven experience in the vegetable sector in Vietnam, working with a variety of stakeholders;
  • Experience in programme implementation support;
  • Experience on advocacy, policy analysis and policy influencing in the Vietnamese context;
  • Hands on experience with network building between producers and other chain actors;
  • Experience working on environmental sustainability, gender and youth mainstreaming in agricultural value chains is desirable;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team;
  • Practical mind-set and result-oriented;
  • Good networker;
  • Very good working knowledge of English and Vietnamese, both spoken and written.
